Dressing for your Portrait of Success... Keep Things Simple!

HAIR- DO NOT TRY OUT A NEW HAIRSTYLE FOR YOUR PORTRAIT.
Instead wear it as you usually do. If you wear it loose sometimes and pulled back other times, we can photograph it both ways.

Make-Up -Essentials for best skin reproduction:     ( Try this video. It is rather long, but there are some amazing tips and obviously amazing results too):    https://youtu.be/f6n9lNgxb8w

Look for:Low/No SPF √Matte √ Good Coverage √

The SPF ingredient that causes flashback is Titanium Dioxide. However you really only need to avoid any foundation that makes SPF claims. Low levels may be "flash" safe.Titanium Dioxide added to zinc oxide to create an SPF factor. If you see zinc oxide in the foundation's ingredient listing you might have a problem. Most mineral foundation have SPF because minerals are natural SPF, so read the ingredients.

The right powder is just as important: What to look for: Low/No SPF √Matte √ Good Coverage √Shine Control √ What to avoid: HD 100% Silica powders like ELF and Makeupforever HD powderMineral powders with Titanium Dioxide and zinc oxide. Elf HD isn't as bad a MUFE because it not 100% Silca

Everyone is different but some of the best foundation for photographs are -Rimmel Lasting Finish 16 or 25, Rimmel Match perfection

Eyebrows (the archway to the soul)- The face is the image, but the eyebrows-the frame!: See what Damone Roberts has to say and  Get that polished look. (click this link)

- No shimmer. Wherever possible avoid shimmer; whilst it can look gorgeous and give you that sun kissed and healthy look in daylight you must remember that shimmer reflects light and if you’re using flash photography this isn’t something you’ll want as you’ll look white!

- Skip HD. Remember that HD (high definition) makeup doesn’t mean “I’ll photograph well” Some HD products photograph beautifully in flash photography but we must remember that HD makeup is designed for on film makeup (think TV Shows, Movies, Etc) not necessarily flash photography. Most HD makeup contains silica which can photograph white so it’s best to skip HD makeup just to be safe.

CLOTHING- Avoid plaids, stripes or patterns. Wear tailored or crew necklines in soft pastels. Avoid fussy, rippling-wavy collars, although a scarf is acceptable. Keep things simple. Business suit is best. No bare shoulders.

Long sleeves are essential as bare arms call too much attention to themselves.

Turtlenecks and V-necks are flattering provided that neither is exaggerated in style.. COLOR PORTRAITS- avoid light colors that are flesh toned, e.g. beige, tan, peach, pink, white, and yellow. A contemporary business suit in medium to dark tones of brown, rust, burgundy, black, charcoal or navy works best.

Feb.11, 2011 Fashion Alert: NEW YORK - "Project Runway" host Tim Gunn and actresses Taraji Henson and Olivia Wilde have a "no fur" message for designers showing collections at New York Fashion Week. "I'm on a campaign to get as many fashion designers as possible to stop using it," said Gunn, chief creative officer of Liz Claiborne. " I'd just like to sit with them and have a talk and ask, 'Is it really necessary?'"The three appeared Thursday night at Stella McCartney's boutique with representatives of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. McCartney is a longtime supporter of animal rights and doesn't use leather or fur in her designs.

Gunn said he wants both fashion designers and consumers to be informed about decisions they're making when creating and buying clothing.Henson, a 2009 Academy Award nominee, strikes a sultry, nearly naked pose in the latest ad for PETA's "Fur? I'd Rather Go Naked" campaign.

"There are other products we can use," she said.

MEN

Dressing for your Portrait of Success...Crisp Collar and Bold Tie a MUST!

HAIR- Have hair cut about one full week before the session...no sooner!

FACE- Make sure you shave just prior to the session. (Schedule a morning session.)

CLOTHING -A dark business suit with or without a vest. No double-breasted please. A tie will add dignity to your statement of character, so try to choose a silk one having bold graphic shapes like geometric grids or patterns. This is not the time for paisley. REMEMBER- the effectiveness of the entire portrait can be sabotaged with the wrong choice, so please bring a small selection with you if you are not sure.

The Shirt Rule of Thumb-If your shirt fits and you feel fantastic in it ... you'll photograph fantastically!
